The free event takes place on Saturday and Sunday January 30-31 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., respectively. Floral Fair has something for practically everyone. Beautiful flowers, good food, and exciting rides are just the beginning.
2. Chinese New Year in Beverly Hills
2016 marks the fifth year of the Chinese New Year event in Beverly Hills event. Featuring full productions of performances from Beijing that are internationally acclaimed, this is a great opportunity to see eye-catching entertainment in one of California’s most beautiful cities. The event takes place on January 31 at 8 p.m. at the Saban Theatre. Tickets can be acquired for just a $6 processing fee, which isn’t much to spend considering the event’s cultural uniqueness.
3. Lunar New Year Festival at Bowers Museum
This family-friendly event features arts and crafts, indigenous Chinese food and music, and dancing festivities. Located about 30 minutes outside of L.A., Bowers Museum is situated in sunny Santa Ana and features the famous Bowers Museum Kidseum, which is where the festivities will take place. The event is on February 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free for Santa Ana residents and museum members. Non-members ages 2 and up pay $6 for the Kidseum.
4. New Year Kick-Off Ceremony at Thien Hau Temple
This special celebration occurs on the eve of the Chinese new year, February 7, at Thien Hau Temple in downtown L.A. Featuring festivities that include traditional Chinese incense offerings, Taoist and Buddhist monks, dragon dancers, and the explosion of 550,000 firecrackers, the free event runs from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. and is a must for Chinese new year Los Angeles celebrants who want to get an eye full of how the Chinese like to celebrate the new year right as it rolls in.
5. Lunar New Year at Universal Studios Hollywood
If any organization knows how to put on a good production, Universal Studios is it. The famous entertainment company will celebrate the Chinese new year and the Year of the Monkey with Chinese style decor, famous Universal Studios characters dressed in Chinese garb and a towering MEGATRON from “Transformers: The Ride-3D” that speaks Mandarin.
6. Lunar New Year Festival at L.A. Waterfront
Positioned along a scenic stretch of the L.A. waterfront, the Port of Los Angeles will hold festivities at San Pedro’s Downtown Harbor. Commencing on February 6, the free event runs from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and features folk dancers, dragon and lion dancers, Asian food, arts and crafts and an eye popping fireworks display. If you love the L.A. Waterfront area, this event is one that you definitely shouldn’t miss.
7. Undiscovered Chinatown Tour
Many thriving metropolises have a “Chinatown” section, and L.A. is no exception. If you’ve never explored Chinatown in L.A., taking this tour is a great way to see unique landmarks and discover new restaurants and retailers. The Chinatown Business Improvement District holds the tour on Saturday February 6 at 10 a.m. The walking tour only costs $20 and takes about 90 minutes.
